Pubic Arch Pain while cycling

Women often struggle with pubic bone pain as their pubic arch is significantly lower. This anatomical difference can cause uncomfortable pressure points, especially due to the high pressure of the saddle nose. To reduce the pressure on the pubic bone, it is important to choose a saddle with a lower saddle nose that is as flat as possible to ensure an optimum contact surface.

The anatomical difference

The only significant anatomical difference between men and women is the lower pubic arch in women. However, thanks to SQlab's step saddle technology with a dip in the middle of the saddle and the lower saddle nose, this difference has already been taken into account. This saddle design ensures that the sensitive perineal area in men and the pubic arch in women are equally relieved.

Choosing the right Saddle Shape

Pressure relief of the pubic arch

Our saddle concepts, such as the step saddle concept, combine a deeper saddle nose with a dip in the middle of the saddle to minimize pressure points on the pubic arch. This targeted relief provides a noticeable increase in comfort when cycling and helps women to pedal pain-free and relaxed. Due to the lower pubic arch, they are more susceptible to pressure points that can be caused by high pressure from the saddle nose. At SQlab, we have made it our mission to alleviate this discomfort and offer innovative saddle concepts that are tailored to the anatomical differences and needs of both sexes.

Choosing the right Saddle width

Pressure relief of the perineal area

In normal sitting, the sit bones are designed to support the body weight and absorb high pressure; this should also be the case when cycling. Thanks to the SQlab saddle width concept, the main load of the body weight is shifted to the sit bones when cycling. This specific weight distribution significantly relieves pressure on the sensitive perineal area and the pubic arch.

Study on special women's saddles

The German Sport University Cologne has carried out a study with pressure measurements on women with two different saddles (gel saddle and perforated saddle) in different sitting positions. None of the saddles tested showed satisfactory relief in the main area - pubic arch / saddle nose. The results are consistent with the results of our own studies in the SQL laboratory. The SQlab saddle width system - in combination with the lower saddle nose of the SQlab stepped saddle - is therefore not only the first choice for men, but also relieves the typical pressure points of women on the saddle. This means that special women's saddles are no longer absolutely necessary due to the different geometries and seating positions of men and women.
