Step saddle concept
SQlab step saddle concept
The saddle shape is crucial for optimum pressure relief in order to relieve sensitive areas such as the pubic arch and perineal area and counteract numbness.
The step saddle shape from SQlab: ergonomics and comfort in perfect balance
The SQlab step saddle shape is based on more than 20 years of ergonomic research and biomechanical studies. Developed to effectively counteract common problems such as numbness and pressure pain when cycling. The sit bones are slightly raised, which distributes the pressure evenly over the sit bones and has been proven to relieve pressure on sensitive areas such as the pubic arch and perineal area by up to 85%*.
Effective against numbness
Numbness in the perineal area is often the result of insufficient pressure relief on sensitive nerves and blood vessels. The shape of the stepped saddle enables a targeted weight transfer to the sit bones, which can significantly reduce pressure peaks on sensitive areas. The combination of ergonomic shape and intelligent saddle geometry improves blood flow in these areas, which significantly reduces the occurrence of numbness.
Clinical studies show that the SQlab saddle shape improves blood flow in the genital area by an average of 64%. Numbness is eliminated in 82% of test subjects, while pain in the sit bone area is reduced by 71%. Study results
Conventional Saddle
High pressure load on the pubic arch and in the perineal area. Hardly any pressure distribution on the sit bones.SQlab step saddle
Complete pressure relief of the pubic arch and perineal area. Even pressure distribution on the sit bones.Conventional saddle
Conventional saddles usually have a flat profile. Sensitive nerve tracts and blood vessels are not kept clear. They are exposed to the constant pressure of the body weight. This can result in numbness.

The SQlab stepped saddle concept keeps the nerve tracts and blood vessels clear. The recess in the middle of the saddle (dip) creates additional space. The stepped saddle concept is used in all our saddles for every area of use.

Optimum support on the uphill
The step saddle shape not only provides relief, but also the necessary support, especially on steep uphill climbs. The defined sitting position enables optimum power transmission to the pedals so that energy can be efficiently transferred. This not only improves performance, but also ensures a more pleasant riding experience, regardless of the terrain.
More space thanks to dip and lower saddle nose
Another feature of the SQlab step saddle shape is the dip in the middle of the saddle. This dip creates valuable space in the perineal area and provides noticeable pressure relief. Combined with the slightly lower saddle nose, the pressure on sensitive areas is significantly reduced.
Differ in shape - but not in ergonomic advantages
The dip in the center of the saddle and the lower saddle nose are found in all our saddle models, but vary in their characteristics depending on the sitting position.
Maximum relief in the perineal area
The M-D Line from SQlab has been specially developed for cyclists who require maximum comfort and relief in the perineal area. This product range aims to provide maximum relief for sensitive structures in the perineal area and increase comfort during longer rides. The models in the M-D Line offer impressive relief values: the 602 M-D active 2.1 achieves 80% relief, while the 610 Infinergy® M-D active 2.1 offers 82% and the 621 M-D active 2.1 even 85% relief in the perineal area. These high values help to reduce pressure and unpleasant sensations.
