Maximum contact surface, support and comfort
Pulled up
The raised end of the handle supports the outside of the hand, providing support and protection. The pressure is distributed evenly over a large area.
Hand edge
Higher on the outside than on the inside. This corresponds to the natural position of the hand. Ulnar nerve and especially the carpal tunnel exit, with the median nerve, are excellently relieved. The outer edge of the hand is slightly more stressed. However, this is rather insensitive, as karate fighters often impressively demonstrate.
Grip safety
Ergobar and non-slip materials: a wave-shaped elevation on the underside of the grip, which precisely reproduces the shape of the angled fingers, provides an edge to hold on to and therefore a secure grip during sudden braking and abrupt riding maneuvers. The high-quality material of the 702 grip also offers excellent grip, even in wet conditions, so you can always keep control of your bike.
VSF certified - BEST ERGONOMICS
“SQlab's shape and size concept offers an outstanding selection of different grips for every purpose. The ergonomic shape effectively supports the hands, while the unusual grip edge ensures “grip” and greater riding safety. All models are available in three sizes, which differ in diameter, length and shape.” VSF
Pressure measurement at the SQlab laboratory
Pressure measurements are carried out with an electronic pressure measuring foil/mat. We have been using pressure measurement in saddle development since the beginning, i.e. for 15 years.
Together with a manufacturer of pressure sensors, we were able to further develop the system and make it flexible enough to be able to wrap the pressure mat around the handle. Some of our premium dealer partners also use our pressure measurement system for advice.
Result:Overall, the pressure is distributed over a very large area in handle models 702 and 710. Accordingly, the maximum pressure is approx. 27 % lower than with comparable ergonomic grips. The pressure at the carpal tunnel exit was reduced to less than half on the 702. |
Carpal tunnel
A kink in the wrist - especially a laterally hyperextended wrist - can constrict the carpal tunnel. Similar to a kinked garden hose through which water no longer flows, nerve information can no longer be transported through the constricted carpal tunnel.
This problem only occurs in healthy people when the joint is “blocked”. The cause is almost always a handlebar with too little bend to the rear.
Relief of carpal tunnel outlet
The relief wing must be placed as far out as possible to keep the carpal tunnel opening largely free and reduce pressure. Even slight but constantly recurring pressure over a long period of time can lead to problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
Relief of the ulnar nerve
Pressure measurements show that the maximum pressure usually occurs on the outside of the palm. This is where the ulnar nerve runs, which supplies the two little fingers.
Setting relief sash
We recommend 150° to 160°. Ideally, the extended line of force of the forearm runs through the middle of the grip. Recommendations between 180° and 165° are currently very common, but can become dangerous if forward support is no longer guaranteed during heavy braking. The SQlab relief wing is not intended to correct the hand, but merely to support it.
Comfort upgrade
Existing 710 and 702 handles can easily be retrofitted with the Innerbarend® 410/402.

The 702 comfort grip offers a maximum contact area, support and comfort. The extra-large wing supports your wrist and evenly distributes pressure thanks to its very large contact area. The preferred area of use is a comfortable trekking or city bike. The scope of delivery includes a set of grips.
This relief wing, which is located at the very edge and deeply extends downwards, frees up space for securely grasping the grip body in all situations. The raised grip end picks up the side of the hand and supports the hand. The inside’s level is higher and thus secures the natural position of the hand. Hence it specifically relieves the ulnar nerve, the median nerve and the carpal tunnel pass. The Ergobar offers a secure grip for the fingers and optimum support on the front and bottom with a wave-like elevation. The clamp moved from the outside to the inside in the course of the product development. This increases the shock absorption and comfort on the hand’s outer side. Thus, the SQlab grip series is no longer compatible with twist grips. Various rubber compounds ensure a perfect grip level and high comfort. We only use the best possible materials. This guarantees you a long service life and no sticking of the grip rubber.
The personal grip size is what matters. With the 702 grip, the sizes differ in diameter, length and shape.
