Mike Metzger

He has left a lasting mark on the freestyle MotoX scene. A career full of groundbreaking achievements, he landed the first backflip from a freestyle ramp in 2002 and set new standards at the X Games by pulling off the first back to back backflip and winning gold medals in the Best Trick category. But Metzger's passion for racing goes beyond motorcycles. His entry into downhill mountain biking began even earlier, when he joined the Pro Class at the age of 18. Metzger learned to ride a bike as a child and started racing motocross at the age of 6. Despite his success in motorized sports, his love of bikes remained undiminished.

The inspiration for the saddle design

The 6OX ERGOWAVE® active 2.1 ltd. Metzger is a design masterpiece in a limited edition, the result of a collaboration between SQlab and the legendary Mike Metzger himself. Mike has not only made a name for himself in FMX, but is also well known in the tattoo scene. One of his most famous motifs, the "Spark Plug", determines the look of the limited edition 6OX saddle.

Good for your back and intervertebral discs

Mike has suffered 6 back fractures in his career, from which he has fortunately recovered reasonably well. Especially for people with back problems, a SQlab saddle with active technology can make a big difference on longer rides. The saddle follows the pedalling motion with a horizontal movement, which not only increases comfort, but also promotes the mobility of the intervertebral discs and minimizes pressure peaks. The intervertebral discs are mobilized and discomfort can be prevented.

Free space for unrestricted riding comfort

Anyone who jumps 125 feet, (38 meters), over the fountains of the famous Ceasar's Palace casino in Las Vegas on a motorcycle needs space. Anyone sitting in the saddle needs it too. Not in terms of distance, however, but in terms of the sensitive areas of the body. The double step shape of the 6OX saddle creates the necessary space. On the one hand, the step provides lateral support on steep climbs, on the other hand, the step offers a defined contact surface for the sit bones. In combination with the lower saddle nose, the sensitive perineal area is relieved for both men and women and the pressure is evenly distributed over the sit bones.

Mike never wanted to be defined just by his results in freestyle MX. His years have been filled with every discipline imaginable, including supercross, Hollywood stunt doubles and world record attempts. In sum, he is living his favorite motto: "I just want to ride my dirt bike."

"I started downhill mountain biking in 1993, just out of high school. I moved to Big Bear for a short time and worked as a graphic designer for a mountain bike equipment company. The following year, Intense Cycles put me on their first downhill team. I later introduced Shaun Palmer to the people at Intense. I took Shaun Palmer and Randy Lawrence on a mountain bike tour in Snow Summit for the first time. The next year Shaun Palmer won the NORBA championship and I went elsewhere. I decided to work on my art career and tattooing, which I still do today."
